A Short Biography in Loving Memory of:
Lorean Holloway – Benjamin
October 15, 1920 – January 20, 1990
“Madea” as we called her, was the first born of Sam and Rena Holloway. She was raised in Stranger, TX. As she got older she helped her parents with her younger siblings, and after the death of her mother Rena in 1953 she helped her father raised her younger siblings.
Lorean worked tirelessly and lovingly providing for her family. She had a very closed bond with her siblings especially her sisters. During the hard times, Aunt Lorean, as she was also called, helped her sisters’ with their children while raising her own four children.
She loved the lord and was a faithful member and choir member of the Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church where she served under Pastor Guy and later under Pastor WM Johnson, Jr.
Loving to sing didn't stop at Zion Hill, she was also a faithful member of the Marlin Community Choir.
She loved children, later in life, she raised 5 of her 8 grandchildren. She was very protective of her babies, and adored her great granddaughters. Her prayer was that God would allow her to live to see all her grand children grow up.
She was tough and firm but loving and sweet, and extremely proud; all at the same time.
She had an eighth-grade education and over the years, she held several jobs to make ends meet; from the cotton fields, to cleaning homes and even cleaning the church. One of her last jobs was at a turkey plant where she was skillful with knives. There have been stories where she used those knives to protect herself and loved ones.
She made the best peach cobbler, dewberry pie, sweet potato pie and ice cream out of fresh snow.
She was also an encourager and motivator that let all young people know that they were somebody and could be and do anything they set their minds to.
Her motto was “if you were going to be apart of something, you give it your all or don’t do it at all.”
She had this corny joke where she would call your name and when you answered she wouldn’t say anything but just look at you and when you said "what" again, she would say “Chicken butt” and we would all just laugh.
Madea we love and miss you dearly….The Family
