A Short Biography in Loving Memory of:

Irma Faye Holloway - Brown

February 17, 1942October 14, 2011

Irma Brown was the baby of the bunch she had 10 children(7 alive and 3 in heaven)

She was a woman who would work three jobs to take care of her kids and put food on the table. There were times when we would come home from school and something was smelling so good but when she put it in the bowl we noticed there was no meat.  We would ask her, "Mom, what is this?"  She would say, "It's called a poor man soup."  It was the best soup we had ever ate. There was a lot of times that we would eat something crazy for breakfast or crazy for lunch or supper. Although, to us it seemed like it was crazy, but to her it was all about making sure her kids ate. On the days that she didn't have to go to one of her jobs, she would get in the kitchen and show us how to cook something.  We never used a recipe at all. She would just say what too put in it. One of my best memories of her was riding around looking at all the Christmas lights. Another was of her taking us to the Riesel Fair.  She always found time to do things with us.  She loved sewing and making our clothes.

Some of her nieces and nephew gave her nickname like Sugar Mama, Big Mama, and her great grandchildren called her Boo Boo.  She love talking on the telephone to everyone. And if you tell her that you have cooked, she would say "Bring me a plate or I will come and get it."  She worked in three different nursing homes: Elwood, Golden Years, and  Bremond nursing home.  She loved working with her patients. As she got older, on her off days, she babysitted her grandkids.  She loved being around them.  As the years begin to change, she start babysitting and raising some of her great-grandkids.  She loved talking to you about how to keep a happy home  (if you know what I mean) she will have you laughing until you can't laugh anymore.
